US | ‘Real ID’ Deadline Extended to 2025 for Air Travelers

The Department of Homeland Security again pushed back the enforcement date for REAL ID compliance, meaning that air travelers will not be required to show REAL ID-compliant forms of identification until 2025. While the REAL ID security standards were set to take effect next May, pandemic-related delays have prompted multiple deadline extensions. States have struggled to issue new forms of identification fast enough, and, as of April 2021, fewer than half of state-issued driver’s licenses and ID cards were compliant.
