As immigration restrictions tighten elsewhere, Canadian companies are reporting an increase in international applications. According to a MaRS Discovery District survey, 53% of respondents received more international applications in 2017 than the prior year. A full 45% of companies surveyed chose to hire internationally, with the most common roles in the engineering field. In addition to stricter immigration controls, international hires to Canada have also been facilitated by the expedited Global Skills Strategy visa.
