In an effort to implement Switzerland’s 2014 voter referendum restricting immigration, Switzerland has released a list of professional roles that must be offered to unemployed Swiss workers first. This process will be required once the unemployment level for a certain field reaches 8%, and the list will then be updated annually. By January 2020, the requirement is further expected to be implemented for positions with an unemployment rate of 5% or higher. The limited list, which may be a harbinger of stricter immigration policies in the future, is not yet expected to have a profound impact on the technology sector.
