Germany Extends Border Checks

The Government of Germany announced on October 16, it would introduce additional checks at the borders with Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland. The border checks are inteded to curb the increase of asylum seeks entering the country.

The new border checks will take effect from October 16 and, as of December 6, the border checks will remain in place until at least December 15.

Germany also has stationary border checks with Austria, which were implemented in 2015 and renewed as recently as October 16, 2023.

On November 13, Germany extended border controls with Switzerland.
