Drop in Subsidized Aid Programs Among Immigrants

Undocumented immigrants who are able to apply for government-subsidized food and health programs have been refusing to do so for fear that the government will use their information in possible deportations. To date, more than six hundred families have left the Women Infants and Children Program (WIC) since 2016, and that number is expected to grow. Families are therefore increasingly making the decision to forego their access to healthcare in exchange for a feeling of greater security in the United States.
