Indian Aadhaar Card Updates by Region

There have been important updates regarding the Aadhaar Card application process, which has now been decentralized by the Government of India. Each state is now responsible for managing Aadhaar Card issuance, including physical address verification of applicants.

  • Bengaluru: From November 1, 2024, all NRIs and foreign nationals will be required to provide address proof signed by a Gazetted Officer for new enrolments.
  • Delhi/NCR: All Aadhaar Centres in the Delhi NCR region now require that the Residential (FRRO) certificate includes both the Post Office name and sub-district name in the address for foreign applicants. Physical address verification has been taking over a year to complete, with no clear timeline for card issuance afterward.
  • Mumbai: All Aadhaar applications in Mumbai must now include address proof signed by a Gazetted Officer. Processing times are still dependent on physical address verification, which may take anywhere from 6 months to over a year.
