USCIS began using tablets to administer English reading and writing tests for naturalization on October 1. The new step is part of the Service’s efforts to modernize their processes and reduce paper usage. While the use of the tablet during the test is new, the content and scope of the material tested has not changed. Immigration Services Officers will provide careful instruction to applicants on how to use the tablet and stylus to write out responses before the test begins. The civics test will continue to be administered verbally.
