USCIS Introduces Electronic Bank Payments for Filing Fees

On August 29, 2025, US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has introduced a new payment method that allows applicants to pay filing fees via direct debit from a US bank account. This update is part of USCIS’s broader effort to modernize payment systems and improve processing efficiency.

Under the new system, applicants may submit Form G-1650, Authorization for ACH Transactions, alongside their immigration applications, petitions, or requests. This form authorizes USCIS to withdraw funds directly from a US bank account.

This initiative supports Executive Order 14247, which calls for the modernization of federal payment systems, and is intended to reduce reliance on paper checks and money orders – currently used in over 90% of USCIS transactions.

Key Details:
  • New Payment Options:
    • ACH debit via Form G-1650
    • Credit card via Form G-1450 (existing option)
  • Transition Period: Paper checks and money orders will continue to be accepted until October 28, 2025.
  • After October 28, 2025: Only ACH debit and credit card payments will be accepted.
  • Policy Manual Update: USCIS has updated its Policy Manual to reflect ACH debit as an approved payment method.
  • Sufficient Funds Required: Applications may be rejected if the ACH transaction is denied due to insufficient funds.
  • Alternative for Non-US Bank Holders: Individuals without a US bank account may continue to use Form G-1450 with a prepaid credit card.
