Israel Automatically Extends Visas Expiring Between February 22 and March 31, 2026

The Israel Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA) has announced an automatic extension of several visa categories in response to the current emergency situation. According to the government notice, all visas expiring between February 22, 2026 and March 31, 2026 will be automatically extended for three months, with no need to visit PIBA offices or submit an application.

This measure applies nationwide and is intended to ensure lawful status for foreign nationals who may be unable to renew their documents due to service disruptions.

Who Is Covered by the Automatic Extension?

The following visa types are included in the three‑month automatic extension:

  • B/1 – General Work Visa
  • B/2 – Tourist Visa
  • B/4 – Volunteer Visa
  • A/1 – Temporary Resident Visa
  • A/2 – Student Visa (excluding agricultural trainees)
  • A/3 – Clergy Visa
  • A/4 – Companion Visa
  • A/5 – Temporary Resident Visa
  • DCL permits for family reunification and humanitarian cases

The extension applies only to visas with an expiry date from February 22 through March 31, 2026.

No Action Required

The government emphasizes that:

  • The extension is automatic
  • No appointment, application, or in‑person visit to PIBA is required
  • Foreign nationals should simply retain their current visa or entry record as proof of status

This measure ensures continuity of lawful stay despite office closures or reduced government operations.

Additional Context

According to external legal and consular updates, the automatic extension was introduced amid widespread service limitations caused by regional security developments. PIBA offices have remained open only for emergency civil registry matters, with visa services suspended, making digital and automatic extensions necessary.

What Foreign Nationals Should Do
  • Keep your passport and current visa (or entry voucher) as proof of status
  • Monitor PIBA announcements for any updates or adjustments
  • If you normally rely on a sponsoring school, employer, or institution, notify them of the automatic extension

Foreign nationals do not need to take any additional steps unless PIBA announces further instructions.
