On Tuesday, April 19, the US State Department updated its Level 4 Do Not Travel Advisory for Russia based on security and health issues. On January 23, 2022, travel to Russia was labeled Level 4 due to the ongoing tension between Russia and Ukraine.
As previously advised, US citizens residing or traveling in Russia should depart Russia immediately via one of the commercial options still available. US citizens are strongly advised against traveling by land from Russia to Ukraine.
The current Do Not Travel advisory is due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the potential risks to US citizens, including harassment, detention, arbitrary enforcement of local law, limited flights into and out of the country, and the US Embassy’s limited ability to assist. The State Department also noted COVID-19 concerns and restrictions and terrorism.
