On December 10, the Department of State announced that it would waive in-person consular appearances for nearly 50,000 applicants previously approved for immigrant visas. Eligible foreign nationals include those approved for an immigrant visa from August 4, 2019, through September 30, 2021. The policy was published in the Federal Register on December 13 and will remain in place for 24 months. The policy is expected to help with long backlogs and address concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19 through in-person interviews.
