The Skilled Worker going rates were updated in the Immigration Rules from April 4, 2024. For any Skilled Worker application it is necessary to pay the higher of the applicable general salary threshold (which can be as high as £38,700 for new applicants) and the going rate for the role. However, at the time of the update, there was confusion when some of the going rates in a July 2024 update to the Home Office going rate guidance showed some lower rates than were in the rules.
From October 8, 2024, the Immigration Rules will be updated again and in some instances the going rates will go up – for instance for occupation codes 3531 Brokers, 1258 Directors in Consultancy Services and 2494 Advertising Accounts Managers and Creative Directors.
Employers planning to sponsor any of the affected roles may wish to assign the certificate of sponsorship (CoS) before October 8, 2024 in order to rely on the lower going rate.
