TPS Ended for Hondurans

On May 4, the Trump administration announced an end to Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Hondurans arriving in the aftermath of Hurricane Mitch. The 1999 disaster left 10,000 dead and severely damaged infrastructure in Central America. However, President Trump recently asserted that TPS was never intended to ensure long-term residency in the United States and noted the improved conditions in Honduras warrant an end to the program. Approximately 50,000 affected Hondurans must now seek alternative status in the United States or prepare to depart within the next 20 months.
