EU | Temporary Protection for Ukrainians and Travel

In an interview this week, EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson confirmed that Ukrainians who have temporary protection from EU member states can travel freely to Ukraine and back.

Still, Ukrainians who travel to Ukraine for an extended period must deregister for temporary protection with the authorities of their host country. However, deregistration does not prevent Ukrainians from future or ongoing temporary protection, and if needed, they can return to an EU Member State and register again.

The Temporary Protection benefits will remain in place for Ukraine until at least March 2024, with the possibility of an extension.
