Taiwan has legalized same-sex marriage. This came after Taiwan’s constitutional court held that same-sex marriage should be legalized back in 2017. The court’s decision caused a cascading effect amongst the public as many people pressured the government to hold referendums on the issue. The effect of same-sex legalization is evident in the immigration world as the law permits same-sex dependent applicants from 26 countries to submit an application for a family Alien Residence Card (ARC). The countries are The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Canada, South Africa, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Iceland, Argentina, Denmark, Brazil, France, Uruguay, New Zealand, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, the United States, Ireland, Colombia, Mexico, Finland, Malta, Germany, Australia, and Austria.
