From November 1, applicants for a Swedish work permit must present their original passport in person before the Swedish Migration Agency can make a decision. All applications where a decision has not been made by November 1, will be covered by the new requirement.
What does this mean?
- The applicant must visit a Swedish Embassy, Consulate, or the Swedish Migration Agency in person.
- A person who has already presented their passport to the Authority will not be required to do so again, provided the same passport is used. The passport should not be sent to any Authority.
- Family members must also show their passports before they can get a residence permit. Children under the age of five are not required to show their passport in person, but if a child needs a residence permit card, they must attend to be photographed.
What to Expect
- Further delays are expected, and Migration Agency approvals will take even longer.
- Companies planning to hire a person from outside the EU should plan well in advance.
