Sweden Updates Work Limits for Student Visa Holders

From June 11, 2026, Sweden will impose new limits impacting how international students are allowed to work. Under the new rules, students holding residence permits for studies will be limited to approximately 15 hours of work per week during the academic terms. While this is a significant change, it aligns, overall, with EU minimum standards.

  • Non-compliance can have serious consequences, including the risk of the student’s residence permit being withdrawn.
  • The restriction does not apply during summer periods, when students may work more hours.
