Following a system replacement, and then pause, the government of Sri Lanka reinstated its ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) portal on September 26, 2024. Tourist and business travelers can apply for their ETA on eta.gov.lk.
What to Expect
- The cost of the tourist ETA is US$50 (excluding bank charges).
- The ETA is valid for 6 months and authorizes a 30-day stay with two possible entries into the country.
- Visitors to Sri Lanka must complete an online Arrival Card on the eservices.immigration.gov.lk portal 7-days prior to travel.
Other Sri Lankan Visa Updates
- In August 2024, the Sri Lankan government announced a program togrant a 6-month visa waiver to tourists from 35 countries. However, ultimately, the free visa policy did not come into effect on October 1, 2024, as planned.
- Currently, only citizens of China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Russia and Thailand are eligible for a free visa via the ETA system.
