On January 16, 2019, Russian federal law #216-FZ came into effect, introducing additional obligations for companies inviting foreign nationals to Russia on work and business visas. The new regulation requires the inviting party to follow drafted procedures to ensure not only that the visa entry and exit dates are observed, but also that the invited national’s declared purpose of travel, and the activities performed by him or her match. Inviting Parties failing to comply will be fined as follows:
- Individuals: 2,000-4,000 RUB
- Company officials: 45,000 – 50,000 RUB
- Legal entities: 400,000 – 500,000 RUB
