Poland to Extend Temporary Protection for Ukrainians

The government of Poland is planning an extension of temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens.

The planned changes include:

  1. Temporary protection is extended until March 4, 2024.
  2. Further extension of visa-free travel, national visas, Schengen visas, and temporary residence permits (including those issued by other Schengen countries) issued to Ukrainian citizens whose validity would expire on February 24, 2022, at the earliest.
  3. Extended to March 4, 2024, the period during which a Ukrainian citizen is granted a temporary residence permit for 1 year, in the event that, among other things, he or she does not meet the requirements for granting a temporary residence permit due to the declared purpose of stay or the circumstances on which the permit is sought.

These changes are expected to go into effect in May 2023.
