Mexico’s COVID-19 related flexibilities will end on September 19, 2023. The government of Mexico, during the pandemic, suspended legal deadlines, statutory periods and other activities.
- On May 9, 2023, the Federal Gazette (DOF) released a statement officially terminating extraordinary actions related to the pandemic.
- The General Office of Immigration Regulation has instructed the Representative Offices across Mexico to lift the suspension on deadlines and statutory periods from September 19, 2023.
What does this mean?
- Immigration offices in Mexico will no longer receive applications for renewals or change of status of residence cards that have expired. The law provides that this will only continue to apply to temporary residents who enter the country within 55 days of their residence card expiring.
- Temporary and permanent residents who submit their notification processes after the legal 90-day period will be issued a monetary fine.
