Massachusetts District Judge Brian E. Murphy blocked the Trump administration from ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ethiopia.
- Judge Murphy said he will stay the termination to preserve the status quo while the legal challenge is considered.
- The order will allow around 5,000 TPS recipients to lawfully remain in the US pending litigation.
- African Communities Together filed the lawsuit in late January, claiming the termination was motivated by animus against nonwhite immigrants and violates the Administrative Procedure Act and the Fifth Amendment’s equal protection clause.
