The government of Japan announced that visa-free, independent tourism would resume from October 11. Concurrently, the daily arrival cap will be abolished. The announcement from Prime Minister Kishida ends 2.5 years of entry restrictions due to COVID-19.
The return of independent tourism and regular travel will be buoyed by a national travel discount to support economic recovery in the travel, hospitality, and entertainment sectors. Earlier this month, the government permitted nonguided tours who booked travel through registered agents.
What to Expect
- Tourists to Japan must be vaccinated and boosted (three shots) or present a negative COVID-19 test before departure.
- The nationwide domestic travel discounts will offer financial discounts up to ¥11,000 ($77) per person per night stay.
