Effective July 1, 2025, Japan will lift the measures recommending obtaining a visa in advance for the Peruvian nationals in possession of valid Peruvian ordinary ICAO-compliant IC passports traveling for the purpose of “short-term stay” for a period not exceeding 90 consecutive days.
This was announced by Prime Minister Ishiba to President Boluarte at the Japan-Peru Summit Meeting in November 2024.
A visa exemption arrangement between Japan and Peru was concluded in 1972, and since then Peruvian nationals may enter Japan without obtaining a visa for a period not exceeding 90 consecutive days (short-term stay) under certain conditions. In 1995, the Government of Japan began recommending that Peruvian nationals obtain a visa in advance to enter Japan, in view of the circumstances of the time. From July 1, 2025, the Government of Japan will lift the measures recommending obtaining a visa in advance for the Peruvian nationals.
