Japan Announces Digital Nomad Visas for Nationals of 49 Countries

Japan has announced plans for a six-month digital nomad visas for nationals of 49 countries, with an implementation as early as March 2024.

Key Information about Japan’s Digital Nomad Visa
  • When applying, foreign nationals must have an annual income of at least 10 million Japanese Yen (USD 67,340).
  • Digital nomad visa applicants may be employed by a company or organization, self-employed, or freelancers.

To participate in Japan’s digital nomad visa program, applicants must be from a country that signed a tax treaty with Japan or holds visa-exempt status in Japan.

Benefits of the Digital Nomad Program in Japan

Digital nomads in Japan can live and work for up to six months, an increase over the current 90-day limit for visa-free short-terms stays. Digital nomads are also permitted to bring their spouses and children.
