Ireland to Stop Taking Stamp 4 Support Letter Applications

Effective from November 30, 2023, Ireland’s Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (DETE) will cease taking applications for Stamp 4 support letters. All applications received by DETE prior to November 30, 2023 will continue to be processed however.

Key Information
  • From December 1, 2023 onwards, one application will be made directly to the relevant Registration Office, Immigration Services, the Department of Justice (DoJ) for a Stamp 4. If the applicant are resident in Dublin, the Stamp 4 application will be made in one step online. If they are resident outside of Dublin however, they will need to make an appointment with their local garda station and attend there to make the application in person.
  • The DoJ have advised that applications can be made 12 weeks prior to the expiry of their current CSEP and IRP card and once they have 21 months of employment in Ireland on their CSEP(s), they will qualify for the Stamp 4 permission (in line with the current eligibility requirements for a Stamp 4 Support Letter).
  • This change in policy is placing a significant obligation on the employee and ultimately the employer to ensure that they apply correctly and on time otherwise their continued employment is at risk.
