India Updates Passport Rules for OCI Cardholders

The government has updated the processing procedures for Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders. Now, cardholders will only need to update their documents at 20 years old, instead of multiple times (as was previously required).

Per the new rules:

  • Individuals who obtain their OCI cards before turning 20 years old, will have to get their card reissued when a new passport is issued following their 20th birthday.
  • Individuals who obtain their OCI cards after turning 20 years old, will not be required to obtain reissued OCI cards.

Previously, it was mandatory to re-issue an OCI card each time a new passport was issued to a foreign national up to the age of 20 years and once after they turned 50 years of age.
