Germany Increases Requirements for Travelers from Virus Variant Regions

There is currently a transport ban to and from the United Kingdom, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. However, travelers who are exempt from the ban, including German citizens and residents, their spouses, and other household members, must follow increased requirements upon entering Germany from December 23.

Key Changes
    • Permitted travelers must present a vaccination certificate, recovery certificate, or negative results of a COVID-19 test taken within the last 48 hours before reaching Germany.
    • Air travelers who are passing through Germany in transit from a virus variant country must also present proof of vaccination, recovery, or negative test results.
    • Permitted travelers from virus variant areas must self-isolate for two weeks.
