The French Government has presented a new immigration bill focusing on “firmness, simplification, integration, and labor.” However, the final version of the bill has not been shared with the public yet.
Key Highlights
From a speech made in the French Senate on December 13, 2022, the main changes to current immigration policy include:
- Creating a new residence permit for undocumented migrants already working in understaffed sectors.
- Implementing a French language test as a requirement to be granted a residence permit or renewal.
- An expedited procedure for deportations of foreign nationals who have committed a crime in France.
In January, the immigration reform will be debated and voted on in both chambers of parliament.
