The Finnish government has announced it will grant all Afghan women and girls refugee status. In a statement, the government said, “taking into account the combined effect of the implementation of the sharia law and other Taliban actions, all women are considered in the prevailing circumstances as categorically subject to persecution in Afghanistan. For them, the requirements for asylum are met on the basis of their gender alone.”
Per the announcement, the applicant’s female gender is sufficient to qualify for asylum.
