The EU Parliament and member states have agreed to extend the EU Digital COVID Certificate until June 2023. It was scheduled to end on June 30, 2022.
The extension ensures that EU citizens, and travelers from third countries connected to the EUDCC system, have the right to free movement in case there is a new variant of concern. The commission will reassess the need for the EUDCC in six months, and the scheme will be repealed as soon as the epidemiological situation allows.
The Parliament and the Council must formally adopt the proposed agreement before June 30, 2022.
