International Updates

Australia | In Victoria, Australia’s second-most populous state, the state of emergency is extended to July 19 as it continues to battle a recent coronavirus spike.

Costa Rica | The government is stopping its plans to reopen the country and the economy after a record-high number of cases on Friday.

Ireland | Acting Prime Minister Leo Varadkar announced the country’s 14-day quarantine requirement for travelers from other countries would continue until at least July 9. The government will review future plans next week.

Japan | Prime Minister Shinzo Abe lifted the remaining bans on domestic travel and encouraged residents to go out and attend events to help support the economy.

Mexico | The government is delaying its plans to reopen the country and economy after cases reach near-record levels.

New Zealand | Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced the ban on cruise ships arriving at New Zealand’s ports would continue. Ships for cargo and trade will still be permitted.

Pakistan | Following the resumption of domestic flights on May 16, on Saturday, June 20, limited international flights resumed.

Saudi Arabia | The nationwide curfew and restrictions on business operations ended on Sunday, June 21. However, international flights remain suspended, and social gatherings are limited to groups no larger than 50 people.

Slovenia |The government is introducing a 14-day quarantine requirement for travelers coming from Bosnia, Kosovo, and Serbia after new cases of the coronavirus significantly increase.

Spain | On Sunday, Spain reopened its borders to most European countries and ended the state of emergency that has been in place since mid-March. Spain is now open to all EU nations, except Portugal, and the Schengen area members outside the bloc and Britain. Non-essential travel from third countries is still restricted until June 30.

The United Arab Emirates | Starting Tuesday, June 23, UAE residents and citizens can travel to countries deemed low-risk for catching the coronavirus. Upon return to the UAE, travelers must test negative for COVID-19 and will have to quarantine for up to 14 days.

For Dubai: Foreign nationals with residency visas issued in Dubai are allowed to return as of Monday, June 22. Citizens and residents will be allowed to travel to any country starting Tuesday, June 23. International tourists can travel to Dubai beginning Tuesday, July 7. Returning residents will have to show a recent negative test for COVID-19, among other reporting procedures in place.

The United Kingdom | The country’s coronavirus alert level is now a 3, reduced from level 4. Level 3 indicates the coronavirus is still in general circulation, but the transmission is no longer high or rising exponentially.
