Some U.S. Border Agents Refusing to Process Extensions for Canadians Employed in the U.S.

Department of Homeland Security Border Agents at some U.S. Ports of Entry along the Canadian border have begun directing Canadians seeking L-1 Visa renewals to instead submit to the lengthy process of filing an extension petition with USCISUnder previous practice, highly skilled Canadian Citizens applying for extensions of their L-1A and L-1B classifications were able to expedite the process by applying at airports and border stations. The practice has put a strain on employees that work and travel between U.S. and Canada as well as their U.S.-based employers.
