The Shanghai authority has introduced an online application service for eligible foreign nationals arriving at one of the city’s airports. Currently, travelers of any nationality can remain in China visa-free to 24 hours, transiting through any Chinese city; and nationals of 53 countries can remain in China visa-free for 72 hours or 144 hours, transiting through certain cities. The new online application service provides faster immigration clearance for travelers from these 53 countries transiting in Shanghai.
