Cape Verde Implements New Pre‑Arrival Visa Requirement Effective January 1, 2026

Cape Verde has introduced significant changes to its immigration procedures, officially ending its long‑standing visa‑on‑arrival policy for travelers from 96 countries. Effective January 1, 2026, affected travelers must now obtain a pre‑arrival visa before boarding their flight — even when transiting through Cape Verde.

Previously, eligible travelers could pre‑register online via the EASE portal, pay the applicable airport fee, and obtain a visitor visa upon arrival. Under the updated system, visa issuance at the airport is no longer available for travelers from countries included in the new policy list.

Entry and Transit Implications

Individuals arriving in Cape Verde without a valid visa may face:

  • Refusal of entry
  • Denied boarding for onward transit
  • Possible rerouting at the traveler’s expense

Travelers should ensure they secure the appropriate visa before departure to avoid disruptions.
