Recent changes to Canada’s Criminal Code now designate driving under the influence (“DUI”) as a serious criminal offense subject to possible penalty of ten years in prison. Visitors and potential immigrants to Canada who have had prior DUI convictions, whether within Canada or abroad, may therefore be deemed inadmissible to the country and denied entry. Prospective visitors are therefore encouraged to seek specific advice with EIG caseworkers prior to travel.
