On May 3, 2018, Canada and Portugal signed a Youth Mobility Arrangement effective in 2019. The arrangement allows for the exchange of 2,000 young workers a year, between ages 18 to 35, for up to two years. The arrangement adds Portugal to Canada’s International Experience Canada (IEC) Program (which already includes 33 partner countries), thereby eliminating the normal requirement for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). The IEC Program gives young workers the opportunity to gain valuable international work experience and participate in cross-cultural exchange.
