Anti-Immigration Plan Threatens Swiss-EU Talks

Legislation proposed in the Swiss parliament would restrict EU citizens from the automatic right to live and work in Switzerland. On June 27, 2018, Albert Rosti, the president of the right-wing Swiss People’s Party (SVP), confirmed that 125,000 signatures were collected in favor of the initiative. If the change does go into effect, it would harm relations between Switzerland and Brussels in the wake of a prior retreat from 2014’s vote to restrict access for EU workers.
