DHS Ends Haiti’s TPS Designation

June 27, 2025 — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti, with the designation set to expire on August 3, 2025. The termination will take effect on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, providing Haitian TPS beneficiaries a 30-day wind-down period.

Under federal law, DHS is required to review country conditions at least 60 days before a TPS designation expires. Following consultations with interagency partners and a comprehensive review by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), DHS Secretary Kristi Noem determined that conditions in Haiti no longer meet the statutory requirements for TPS.

The Department emphasized that Haitian nationals are encouraged to explore lawful immigration pathways if eligible. DHS also highlighted the availability of resources to support voluntary return, including the use of the CBP Home app to report departures from the United States.
