US Smart Traveler Enrollment Program Re-Enrollment

On September 16, 2024, the Department of State launched a new version of the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). Travelers should re-enroll in the new system at step.state.gov to continue receiving alerts.

The new STEP platform allows travelers to use a login.gov account to customize their subscriptions and receive country-specific email alerts during the timeframe of their choice. Travelers can enroll multiple trips or locations at once and can modify their subscriptions or unenroll at any time.

Enrolling in STEP makes it easier for the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate to contact a traveler during an emergency and send safety and security alerts. The State Department strongly encourages all U.S. citizens traveling or living abroad to enroll or re-enroll to take advantage of new functionality.
