With the Deadline Nearing, EU Citizens in the UK to Receive Warnings

The EU Settlement Scheme deadline is June 30, 2021. European Union citizens living in the UK who have not applied for settled status will receive a 28-day notice. If after 28 days, individuals who failed to apply for settlement status may lose the right to healthcare and employment in the UK. EU citizens who apply late will have to provide “reasonable grounds” for not previously applying.

While 5.6 million EU citizens have applied for residency rights, it is estimated that tens of thousands have not and may miss the deadline. There is currently a surge of applications, with 10,000 – 12,000 received each day and a backlog of 400,000.

The UK Home Office will issue a “certificate of application” for applicants awaiting a decision to use as proof to continue their right to work and rent.

Britain’s EU Settlement Scheme has been open for two years and the deadline is June 30, 2021.
