White House Launches New Refugee Program

The Biden administration is launching a new refugee program that will allow U.S. sponsors to nominate specific people they would like to bring to the U.S. to help reunite families and involve more everyday Americans in the refugee process. The program is under the Welcome Corps initiative and will allow groups of five or more U.S. citizens or permanent residents to recommend a family or person to sponsor if they meet certain criteria. Previously, refugees who were able to enter the U.S. were only referred to the government by the United Nations. The program is the latest effort by the Biden administration to provide migrants with more legal pathways to the U.S.
