USCIS Opens New Atlanta Asylum Office to Expand Interview Capacity

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced the opening of a new Atlanta Asylum Office, expanding the agency’s capacity to conduct affirmative asylum interviews for applicants in Georgia and Alabama.

Beginning July 8, 2026, asylum applicants under the jurisdiction of the Atlanta Asylum Office will be scheduled for interviews at one of three locations in Georgia or Alabama.

Expanded Interview Capacity

The new office is intended to increase USCIS’s ability to adjudicate affirmative asylum applications and improve interview scheduling capacity in the southeastern United States.

Applicants filing for asylum, as well as those with pending asylum applications, may now be scheduled at:

  • The new temporary Atlanta Asylum Office
  • The USCIS Atlanta Field Office
  • The USCIS Montgomery Field Office in Alabama

The Atlanta Asylum Office will serve applicants residing in Georgia and Alabama.

Temporary Operations Before Permanent Office Opens

USCIS indicated that the Atlanta Asylum Office will initially operate from a temporary location.

The agency expects the office to transition to a permanent location in 2027. Until then, asylum interviews will continue to be conducted across the three designated facilities.

Applicants should carefully review their interview notices, as USCIS will specify which location they must report to for their interview.
