The UAE has updated its visit visa policies, requiring visa holders who wish to extend their visas to do so from outside of the UAE. The previously available option to extend a visa from within the UAE was a COVID-related flexibility. The changes came into effect on December 13, 2022.
Individuals in the UAE who need to extend their visit visa, or time in the Emirates, can either:
- Exit the country and apply for a new permit; or
- Change their status by applying for a new visa, then, if approved, exit the country and re-enter.
There is an overstay grace period, but visa holders should check the portal.
