According to US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, foreign nationals will soon be able to register for the new “Gold Card” visa program and that additional information regarding the visa will be released in the coming weeks.
What they’re saying:
- According to Lutnick, the Trump “gold card” will offer residency and a path to citizenship for $5 million.
- Last week, Lutnick said the card would replace the EB-5 immigrant investor program, contradicting earlier statements where he said the gold card would exist in addition to the EB-5 program.
- Immigration experts have previously warned that the “gold card” would require approval from Congress and an update to the annual cap on employment-based green cards.
What to expect:
- The website will be called trumpcard.gov, and people will be able to register once the website goes live.
- In preparing for the new visa program, the administration is reportedly focused on expediting the immigration vetting process.
The program is expected to face litigation from foreign nationals in pending green card queues.
