The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has announced changes to the documents required in support of applications for a Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), effective August 31, 2026.
The changes are as follows:
- The e-Visa system will require all DTV applicants to submit proof of permanent residence in the UK, Ireland, or the British Overseas Territories (e.g., UK indefinite leave to remain or Irish long-term residency), replacing the previously required document indicating their current location.
- In addition, a certificate of criminal record clearance will be required as a mandatory supporting document for all DTV applicants. The police clearance certificate must be issued within six months from the date of submission (e.g., the ACRO certificate or the Irish police certificate). Dependents under 16 years old are allowed to submit a police clearance certificate of the primary DTV holders.
The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is a digital nomad/remote work visa that allows certain foreign nationals to reside in Thailand while working remotely for an employer abroad or as freelancers. Also eligible for the DTV are participants in Muay Thai courses, sports training, medical treatment, seminars, and music festivals. The spouse and dependent children of DTV holders are also eligible for the DTV.
To be eligible to apply for a DTV, applicants must have proof of funds or a guarantee of at least THB 500,000 for the duration of the stay. The visa costs THB 10,000 and permits stays of up to 180 days per visit, with multiple stays allowed during a five-year period. Each stay can be extended once by another 180 days. Holders must exit the country between stays.
