On October 2, 2026, the Bureau of Consular Affairs announced that, in accordance with World Health Organization recommendations, applicants for Taiwan (ROC) visas must provide proof of having received the oral polio vaccine or the inactivated polio vaccine within the past year if they have resided in or visited any of the following countries for four weeks or more within the past year:
Afghanistan, Cameroon, Chad, Djibouti, DR Congo, Laos, Pakistan, and South Sudan.
Previously, the Bureau also required the vaccine to be administered at least four weeks before the visa application. This rule is not mentioned in the latest announcement.
