From June 12, 2026, Switzerland will implement a comprehensive package of ordinance amendments to align with the European Union’s revised Schengen Borders Code.
The revision affects four key regulations:
- The Ordinance on Entry and the Issuing of Visas (OEV),
- The Ordinance on Admission, Stay and Gainful Employment (OASA),
- The Ordinance on Enforcement of the Removal and Expulsion of Foreign Nationals (OERE), and
- The SYMIC Ordinance governing Switzerland’s central migration-information system.
Background: In 2024, the EU updated the Schengen Borders Code to clarify how member states may re-introduce internal border checks, strengthen airline carrier obligations during public-health emergencies and create a fast-track transfer procedure for irregular third-country nationals apprehended in border zones. As such, Switzerland was required to update its own policies to align with EU rules.
