US | Summit of the Americas Issued a Joint Declaration on Migration

On June 10, the United States and Latin American countries issued a joint declaration at the summit, committing nations across the region to receive migrants and providing avenues to secure humanitarian protection and earn a living. The “Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection” is a call to action that supporters hope will guide countries on one of the most pressing issues surrounding migration, hosting people fleeing violence and persecution and searching for economic stability. The Declaration, while symbolic, is intended to create unity around migration principles reflecting shared concerns across the region.
