As early as this week, the Trump administration could announce a new travel ban barring U.S. entry for certain foreign nationals. According to reports, instead of a unilateral ban, the Trump administration plans to implement a color-coded travel ban, barring entry from a list of countries based on their threat level.
- Countries on the “red” list will be banned indefinitely, and the list is expected to include Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen, the same countries from Trump’s previous travel ban. There have also been reports that Afghanistan and Pakistan would be included on the “red list.”
- There would also be an “orange” list where certain types of visas would be restricted.
- Countries on the “yellow” would be given 60 days to make specific changes or be added to the orange or red list.
The travel bans formally implement Trump’s executive order directing cabinet members to submit lists of countries that should be partially or wholly suspended based on vetting and security risks.
